In about 15 minutes (10am Eastern), the
NPR show
On Point will
air a debate between George Gilder and Richard Dawkins.
George Guilder is the voice of
The Discovery Institute, one of the loudest voices promoting the "science" of "Intelligent Design."
Richard Dawkins is an author and Professor of Public Understanding of Science at Oxford, and a prominent Evolutionary Biologist.
On Point makes streaming audio of their shows available pretty quickly, so if your NPR affiliate doesn't carry it, you can listen in later or even live streaming on, say, WBUR (Boston).
[UPDATED]
Turns out it is back-to-back (Guilder going first) rather than head-to-head.
[UPDATED]
Summary of Guilder: he believes that natural selection isn't enough to explain the complexity of life.
[UPDATED]
Summary of Dawkins: ID doesn't explain anything, and Guilder gets a whole lot of details wrong.
[UPDATED]
Bonus surprise guest Michael Ruse (Florida State University, Philosophy department): Dawkins is right, scientists need to work harder to explain evolution (science) to the religious/non-scientific.
Also, BTW, the replay is up at: The episode site, click on upper left hand corner, "windows" or "real". There is some discussion on the episode in the forums, including comments from one or two creationists.
[UPDATED]
As a very last update (I promise), one of the onpoint commentors linked to an alternate ID theory (see Wikipedia and Uncyclopedia entries for more info).
