We tend to live protected lives, and to turn away from unpleasantness. The crosses at Camp Casey have made Americans look at 1,850+ real human tragedies. Nothing underscores the real cost of war like seeing row upon row upon row of monuments to the price all those dead kids paid. It can bring you to your knees. The Wall and the American Cemetary in the Netherlands affected me that way.
Here's a suggestion. Take the spotlight off Cindy and shine that light on the crosses, the Stars of David and the crescents that represent lost American kids. Let's bring the memorials home. If crosses were to appear on every courthouse lawn in every American county, with the names and home towns of those who have died in Iraq from that state alone, I think the impact would be amazing and positive. It's a one-person job. It will force people to face the finality of death and chance to reconsider set opinions. It will be truly a memorial to those who have died, and who will slime the crosses and the names of dead soldiers? Not even Rove could get away with that.
