On the heels of yesterday's victory for equal rights vis a vis gay marriage comes the Massachusetts' legislature's override of Mitt "Lurch" Romney's veto on a bill allowing access to the 'morning after pill':
Mass. lawmakers override contraception veto
The bill says, in brief:
- emergency room doctors must offer the MAP to rape victims; and
- the treatment is to be dispensed as prescription-free, over the counter medicine.
Informing a rape victim she don't have to carry the baby of her rapist! Allowing women to remove the threat of pregnancy within 72 hours of sex! and leaving those choices up to the women themselves! Those crazy moderates and their hatred of American babies, what will they think of next?
For those anti-abortionists who wail about the stopping a beating heart, the morning after pill must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, when there's no beating heart to be heard. Still, though the pill may or may not be destroying a fertilized egg, even the suggestion of the termination of a pregnancy is intolerable for wingers like Romney:
The governor said the medication, known as the "morning after pill," is already widely available without a mandate from the state. Romney said he was concerned that the hormone regimen could abort a fertilized egg.
Signing the bill, he said, would violate a campaign pledge he made not to change the state's abortion laws.
The article kindly goes on to point out that the bill would also violate his chance to secure the 2008 presidential nomination within the Republican party.
