Bush is a tool - we all know that - but the real enemy is the Republican Party that continues to protect him and his Administration and, frankly, protects Mr. Bush at the expense of our country. Sure, there are times you will see hints of a Republican with a conscience, but at the end of the day they protect their own. It's party over country. As an example, this week 54 Senators - all of the Republicans, except for Louisiana`s, who in a true act of treachery doesn't want to find out why some of his constituents were left on their roofs for two or three days without aid from the Federal Agency created to remedy such situations, forgot to vote - decided that an independent bipartisan committee to investigate FEMA's failures was not a good idea.
I could go on ad infinitum, but if you have gotten this far in the post I don't think it necessary. Suffice to say that the Republican Party has lined up with Bush and now its time for them to pay the price.
The larger point I'm trying to make is that it's okay to place the failure of this Administration at Mr. Bush's feet. No one likes Bush-bashing as much as I do, but it isn't enough. Mr. Bush didn't get us to this point all by himself? Don't get me wrong, his life has been blueprint for the Peter Principle, but he didn't screw America alone. He had plenty of Conservative help and that point has made frequently and loudly. We must place the budget deficit at Mr. Bush and the Republican's doorsteps. We must place the gas prices at Mr. Bush and the Republican's doorsteps. We must place FEMA's failure to respond at Mr. Bush and the Republican's doorsteps. We must place blame for the failure in Iraq - and it has been a failure - at Mr. Bush and the Republican's doorsteps. We must place blame for the cronyism and corruption and the Republican's doorsteps. Well -- you get the point.
Frankly, it isn't enough to be the party of good government, which I would opine is the Democrats strong suit. We must do more. We must attack the Republican by pointing out their failures in governing, the results those failures have produced, how those results have negatively impacted America, and how the Democratic Party can do better.
