Now that Sherrod Brown has done the classy thing and suggested all donations go to ActBlue, I have a suggestion from the peanut gallery for BOTH candidates...and for the netroots. I sincerely hope some version of it gets followed.
For the record I don't yet know who I'll vote for in the primary. I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I like features of BOTH candidates.
But I truly, sincerely think that the primary's focus should not be on each other. It should be on Mike DeWine. The candidates, now that they've declared an unoffical truce, should now throw off the gloves and attack...DeWine. Without mercy. From the first day of their campaign.
Let the primary be decided on who's the more effective attack dog on DeWine, not each other!
This has three huge advantages. One, it denies the DeWine camp the free oppo research that contested primaries often generate. Second, it forces DeWine to address attack after attack...from two fronts, not just one. HE has to spend campaign warchest money answering the charges, or let them go unanswered. Swift Boats, anyone? Third, it means free press for both challengers. (DeWine will get some too, but it's two against one). After answering months of attacks, it's DeWine that will look weak, not our candidate.
The primary happens. One candidate wins. The other throws their support behind them. And the offensive continues with renewed vigor.
What do you think?
