I rarely have the inclination to go out to see a movie. There are few movies nowadays that seem worth the money or the effort. However, I was impressed with George Clooney's interview on The Daily Show (click
here for the video) promoting
Good Night and Good Luck. The reviews made it sound good too.
Two of my favorite cartoonists, Walt Kelly and Herb Block were noted for their works that satirized Senator McCarthy. Block is credited with creating the term, "McCarthyism". So the idea of seeing a biopic of the newsman who famously battled that same senator was exciting. Below is one of Herblock's works that could apply equally well to the present day:
I took my husband to see the show for his birthday. We got to see it this past weekend. The black and white cinematography gave it a different quality. It was quite intriguing. One delightful surprise was the music.
Dianne Reeves was shown singing during the breaks of Murrow's broadcasts. I love jazz, and this jazz was excellent!
I heartly recommend this movie. Anyone who wants to know more about it can refer to my previous diary about researching the movie, or to the Clooney Studio site, which has some excellent links to interviews and other information about the movie.
Since the movie had the good taste to mention him, just have to include one more Herblock masterpiece for good measure. This one is from 1981. Ever hear of history repeating itself?

Note: for some reason, you can't add comments to any of the older diaries. I wanted to add this link to NPR information on Murrow here.
