The loss last night was motivated by many factors.
Jerome Armstrong's analysis on the Front Page of MyDD right now, I think is the most right on about single issue organizations needing to blend into an effective electoral entity and the fact there was more than one issue at stake last night.
That said the overriding issue that drove Lieberman into the ground was his insistance on being overwhelmingly close to George Bush and supporting the failed policy in Iraq.
We have now a Peace Team made up of 30 Congressional Candidates dedicated to ending the senseless war in Iraq and seeking peace in the Middle East.
At the Peace Team Site you will find, not only a list of these Candidates, but a petition for you to fill out with a message in your own words to send to your Senators and Representative on these issues.
As the Peace Team says for itself:
Last night an 18 year Senate veteran LOST in his primary election against a candidate with a "bring the troops home" message. The Democratic Congressional leadership is already coming to together to call for our troops to start coming home, whether it's the Murtha plan, or some variation on another timetable.
The sea change of public opinion has taken place. But what can you do as a non-incumbent candidate, or a citizen supporter of the policy, to best demonstrate that you are standing up to call for policy change in Iraq, just as the majority of your fellow citizens in most districts want?
We have set up a site called The Peace Team, dedicated for that express purpose, and we already have 30 serious Democratic U.S. House and Senate candidates listed and linked as affiliates.
www.peaceteam.net
We are already starting to generate donations for some of these candidates, and very soon will be setting up a multiple candidate donation page that will be very attractive to big donors.
By demonstrating that candidates are standing together on this policy issue we can generate more attention for these and other campaigns than by having individual candidates making isolated statements alone.
All you have to do to get your free link to your blog or campaign site with the Peace Team site is agree with the policy position that our troops in Iraq need to START coming home now. If that is your position, please visit the site and then reply by email at once so we can start referring our visitors from your district to you or your candidate.
On site is an example of the radio spots each of these candidates will be running in their districts as we raise funds for them. Stacey Tallitsch of LA-1 already is running his spots. Hear his example.
peace,
The Peace Team
Whether your message is received by Democrat or Republican it demonstrates our dedication to this cause. We will win in 2006 and we will have our men and women home!
Join me and many others in supporting this cause and The Peace Team. These people need your support.
If you know of another Candidate that should be on that list...get in touch with the Founders and get him or her added. And that's true for challengers and Officeholders.
[disclosure: I am associated with the Tallitsch campaign.
This is however a Diary urging everyone to get to the The Peace Team and support our troops by bringing them home as soon as feasible.]
