I made the mistake of checking out the Drudge Report today and saw this headline: Delaware Dem Senator: Howard Dean Should Go To Iraq. Naturally I inferred that either Joe Biden or Tom Carper were being critical of Chairman Dean. But no, not quite...
The article revealed that Senator Carper (D-DE) had the following to say after returning from Iraq: ["I wish more of my colleagues, and folks like Howard Dean, would try going to Iraq to see the situation there for themselves," Carper told The News Journal.] Maybe if I stopped reading there I would still get the impression that Carper and Dean were at odds in some way. But the next paragraph explains: [Anyone who has visited Iraq and talked to the people there, he said, "is not going to come back thinking this thing is going to be won militarily. It's not.] So in other words, he agrees with what Dr. Dean said just a week or two ago. Now why would Matt Drudge run that misleading headline? Oh, that's right. He's a lying prick. And this idea of a rift between Howard Dean and a centrist (if obscure) Senator helps people think that there is a rift between Dean and mainstream democrats.
