Kagro X has put up a couple diaries on
Guerrilla Marketing. Then
Maryscott OConnor put up a diary called
Slouching Toward Kristallnacht.
These two diaries intersected somewhere in my head and I had (possibly) an original thought! What Mayer in MSOC's diary points out is that few protested or did anything to stem the rising tide of fear in Nazi Germany. What did people come to fear? Being associated with Jews. Well, it's Muslims this time.
More below . . .
I now have several acquaintances who have told me that they believe that all Muslims should be exterminated. That the US should invade any country containing three or more Muslims and kill them all. Literally.
When Bush or Cheney says "terrorists" who do they mean? Muslims. Who do they arrest without cause? Muslims. Who do they imprison, render, and torture? Muslims.
So here's my Guerrilla Marketing idea: Those of us with businesses should put up signs saying, "All are welcome" with cross, star, crescent, and whatever else (suggestions?). More welcoming than "No shirt no shoes no service," don't you think?
Why do I think this would be a good idea? Because it scares me a little. Will my windows be broken? Will I lose customers? Will people paint stuff on my shop? And because it thumbs its nose at the current Regime, which wishes us all to be afraid of the other.
If someone felt like putting a graphic of this in the comments, that would be a good start - I'm no graphic artist.
