Despite Peter Camejo's landslide victory in the Mach 2nd California Green Party Presidential Primary,
David Cobb, running on a "safe states" platform, has slowly emerged as the
frontrunner for the 2004 Green Party Presidential nomination.
Although he is still far short of the 419 delegates needed to claim the nomination, his current total of 43 places him weel ahead of Camejo, who is currently in 2nd place with 15. To date, Cobb has secured victories in the D.C., Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin nominating elections, and has finished second in the four states where he did not win. Camejo, probably Cobb's strongest challenger for the nomination, has won only two contests, California and Mississippi. Ralph Nader won Maine as a write in candidate and Loma Salzman won Massachusetts.
On the Libertarian side, Gary Nolan, fresh off his surprising and razor-thin victory over Michael Badnarik in the Wisconsin Libertarian primary, now appears to be in a solid position for the nomination following his landslide victory in California.
