No, I'm not Juan Cole or even Tom Friedman for that matter (thank God for the latter). But this thought just came to me, and I'm sure it's not original but I'm wondering why more pundits aren't considering it.
Pull the troops, and flood the country with money. Keep pumping billions into Iraq, only without the American military there. Without American military cover, the Halliburtons will flea, leaving the contracts to Iraqis. Iraqis benefitting from the money. Maybe, just maybe, if Iraqis realize they could earn money if they stop killing one another, peace and democracy might have a chance.
Sorry if you were expecting a 7 point Friedmanesque plan. I just worry that pulling American troops means a political and financial abandonment of Iraq altogether.
