They WERE Chanting WE DON'T CARE!

Fri Aug 12, 2005 at 05:09:40 PM PDT

Update [2005-8-12 21:30:6 by deepintheheartoftx]:They're gone. They were there for only about 30 minutes. See patrioticliberal's diary for more. I just got a call from Tracy in Crawford. She says:

"The brownshirts have arrived! Anyone willing to walk the walk needs to get to Crawford NOW!"

If you were just thinking of going, go. If you have the means to get there, get there.

There are 50-60 counter-protesters set up on the other side of the road, the police have been joined by Secret Service who have their vehicles parked in between the two groups in the triangular area that was made off limits.

Tracy says they are chanting WE DON'T CARE!!

Mike Gallager group --  they all have flags and the military families are really upset at this....as you might imagine.

They just usually don't chant it in front of cameras.

  •  Thats old news (4.00 / 31)

We know they don't care. And, I don't care that they don't care.

IMHO, it is important for Camp Casey not to respond to them. The Careless Gang would like a confrontation. It would give the officials an excuse to move everyone out.

Take a page out of MLK's book. Sing, pray, ignore.

They prove it everyday, they don't care about war or debt or anything but lining their neocon pockets.
        •  What bothers me most (none / 1)

is that these people are not the ones benefiting from Bush's policies (at least they don't look like the top 5% economically).  These are people who perceive benefit from Bush's social policies, which actually have not been enacted for the most part, and would not affect these people at all if they were.  They don't just vote against their interests, they PROTEST against their interests.

    •  But does the rest of America know that? (4.00 / 14)

Doesn't every parent with a son or daughter in the military and especially in Iraq need to know these people don't give a damn if their children come home in a casket.

Isn't that a message that should be taped, played, and broadcast to the entire nation. "You hear that America! Only our agenda matters! Not your dead kid! We don't care!"

Isn't that something all Americans should have a right to hear over and over again before passing judgment on the suffering of Cindy Sheehan and countless others? Let's show the world how depraved these ghouls really are.

                  Child,

I was reading Tolkien the day they were killing students at Kent State.

The dead students are the reality.

However, do let me know when you're on the front lines against our own army.

I'll send you my personal copies of the books, I think it was Two Towers I was reading that day. I'd have to check my journal.

I understand Tolkien himself took comfort and courage reading "Beowulf" during the war, so maybe LOTR would enhearten you while you're fighting the civil war you seem to long for here.

First note this: Bush has no army. No preisdent does.

The US has an army. It is fighting for the asshole of a Commander in Chief they're stuck with now because that's what they do, that's what we ask them to do, that's what they swear to do.

If they were going to stop, they'd have done it. They won't. They are men and women who took oaths, they honor their oaths even when they hate what they are doing. And, you know, not all of them think the war is wrong.

As you said, England was ashamed of what was done in it's name.  A significant number of Americans are, I believe, no longer capable of feeling the appropriate shame in having atrocities committed in their names, nor in supporting a war which was started for no good reasons and is fought by the poor and colored.

      Sing. Pray. Ignore them.

Joining the Army is part of the problem. Period. If you're going to invoke MLK, be aware that he referred to the "madness of militarism" for a reason. Stay the fuck out of the military. Nothing good comes of violence. And the military is an instrument of violence. Period. There are other avenues for serving our country: Peace Corps, AmericCorps. Join them. Militarism Is the problem... I know Kos doesn't like this, or even understand it, but he's wrong. A single question for those who argue it: How long can you wear a field marshall's cap without becoming a field marshall? How long do you train to be a bomber without dropping a bomb? How long do you drop play mortar shells and fake bullets and paper targets? All that training ends up killing somone in a war, 9 times out of 10, a war we shouldn't be fighting. Like this one. YOu want to serve our country? Take over the IMF, take over the congress and the executive branch and start passing some laws that make sense. The army's doing nothing but creating enemies for us and profits for Haliburton. Fuck them. Think hard before you join them. If you think long enough and hard enough, by they time you answer, you'll be all grown up.

      •  I agree (none / 0)

When people join the Army, they're making an independent decision to never again be fully able to make an independent decision. Acquiescence to whatever immoral things are decreed becomes a duty, de jure or de facto (though in rare cases like My Lai or Abu Ghraib, you can end up being punished for them, as long as you're low enough in the hierarchy). Whether or not the people who join come around to seeing the world the way we do is irrelevant -- in the meantime, they serve as extra hands for committing torture and murder.

I diaried this, but I'll repeat my suggestions here:

IF anyobody knows anybody at the Crawford camp, get them to make three LARGE signs for when the brownshirts return:

Sign #1:  THE CHICKENHAWKS HAVE ARRIVED!

Sign #2:  IF YOU SUPPORT THE WAR, WHY AREN'T YOU I THE ARMY?

Sign #3:  What have YOU sacrificed for your country?

Then they should position the signs where the cameras will see them, and gently suggest to every reporter there that they should ask the chickenhawks if they are in the army, or if their son or daughter is in the service, and if not, why not?

Then calmly continue singing America The Beautiful or My Country 'tis of Thee.

Chickenhawks just HATE is when you call them Chickenhawks.

Yes...get those cameras...get this recorded...get it online to as many sites as possible. And send it to the networks with the message, "See...they don't care. Good thing someone does. We just wish that, for his sake, the president would have met with Mrs. Sheehan earlier."

          you reclaimed your party?

These morons have taken it over. It's about time the real republicans throw them out.

          •  It USED TO BE my party, too (4.00 / 11)

I was a Republican for the first 30 some years of my life, at first by inheritance, and then because I actually thought that deficits mattered when Democrats didn't think they did.  I was even an officer in my state's Teen-Age Republican and in my College Republican club.  For a long time after the party changed beyond recognition, I rarely voted Republican, but couldn't bring myself to change my registration.

I was finally able to do it when I faced the fact that the party of Lincoln had become the party of the Dixiecrats, that it was now Republicans who insisted that deficits didn't matter, and that today's GOP doesn't even have the defense of favoring irresponsible deficits as a means of attempting to achieve social equity, as did the Democratic Party of my youth.  Instead, the justification for those deficits now is to assure that the greed of the most greedy of wealthy Americans is fully satisfied, and they are able to advance their goal of achieving a hereditary economic aristocracy.

There's no taking back the Republican Party of which I was once a member.  Although a few of its members, such as Jim Leach of Iowa, are still alive, that party has been dead and buried for years now, and there's no chance of a resurrection.

Assuming (and this may be a stretch) that this chant gets any media coverage, it is imperative that anyone in Ms. Sheehan's group not claim surprise if asked for a response.  Seriously-- we do ourselves no favors when we express surprise about despicable wingnut behavior.  Their behavior is normal for them, it is expected, and these are the kinds of people controlling the discourse in this country.  Democrats cannot give fence-sitters an out by allowing them to distance themselves from the haters and still stay on the pro-Bush side.

    •  Pouty children (4.00 / 11)

      an anecdote...

I shoot pool on a league team. Last week, we shot against this team that every other team groans about playing. They are loud. They are brash. They drink too much. And they annoy the crap out of every serious player in this particular league. Every week the rep. gets a complaint about them.

As I mentioned, we had to play them last week. But since I didn't get put up, I was able to watch their antics as they played others on my team.

These guys were quite in the beginning. But as the evening progressed...the loudness started coming back. Then I realised that they got louder as each member of their team lost another match. One of my teammates figured the deal out and won by chatting  with her opponent. She won. Another of my mates, a Vietnam Vet with the 82nd Airborne, did this whole meditation thing that put him into a zone where the loudness didn't effect his game. And another member simply stepped away when the rowdiness started to take over.

One of our opponents let the whole thing slip when he shouted out to our captain that he didn't get why they were losing. After all, "we're acting this way as part of our strategy is to be loud and knock you off your game."

I'm glad that I didn't have to play. Although I'm getting better with the mind-game part, I still have a long ways to go.

The "counter-whatever it was" was part of a strategy to knock the Cindy circle off its game. There will be more. But I think that the songs and silence are a great demonstration. Also I think that there are a few other things that they could do.

      • One town reacted to a Felps rally by lining up in front of the protestors and turning their backs.
      • Another could be simply kneeling down and praying in silence.
      • Keep singing the America songs (God Bless America and Star Spangled Banner are awesome).
      • Stand in a silent line in the hand over the heart pose.
      • Recite the Preamble to the Constitution.

They don't care about our reasons for sending armies into battle in Iraq.

    A. Why?

    B. I don't care.

They don't care about the pretexts and excuses that have all failed auditions,

but they also don't care about the real reasons.

The real reasons are inside them, some independent need to deploy American killing power against others. This is what they don't care about.

    And why don't they care?

Because the consequences will never touch them.

    They will not die.

They will not lose loved ones.

    Smearing Cindy Sheehan

Aug. 13, 2005  |  August was supposed to have been a quiet month for George W. Bush. Last year, the president cut short his customary weekslong vacation in order to campaign for reelection, so this year, unencumbered, he'd planned to spend more than a month in the sweltering heat of his ranch in Crawford. Then, last week, Cindy Sheehan, a grieving Northern California woman whose son was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, in April 2004, showed up on Bush's vacation doorstep. She refuses to leave until Bush meets her in person. Nothing's been quiet in Crawford ever since.

[ dissolve to interior, Mango's dressing room, as he tries to squeeze into the room and escape his Fans' grips ]

      Fans: Mango! Mango!

Mango: Go away! Mango wants to be alone! [ closes the door on all his fans ] Oh, why must I be Mango? Why can't I be someone else. Someone normal. Like say.. John Ritter? But, no. I have to be Mango.

[ the Gangleader stands outside Mango's dressing room, calling for him ]
      Gangleader: Mango!

Mango: No! Go away! No more Mango for you!

Gangleader: Mango! [ turns to the Fans ] Back off! [ he fights his way through the Fans and enters Mango's dressing room, slamming the door behind him ]
Mango: What is it? Who are you?

Gangleader: My name is Lucius Monroe. But they call me Hard Core. I deal in stolen cars and drugs. But, now you are the only drug I'm addicted to. [ holds out a gift for Mango ]

Mango: [ knocks the gift to the floor ] If you start out using Mango, it will only lead to more Mango. And then, pretty soon, you'll need more and more and more and more of the Mango, until there is no more Mango left. Not even for Mango!

Gangleader: [ pulls out a gun and points it at Mango ] If I can't have you, I'm prepared to take you!

Mango: Can you take the color blue out of the sky? Can you grab the mountains and put them in a pocket? Can you sit down at a table with a knife and fork and try to eat a rainbow? No! And such is Mango!
Gangleader: [ misty-eyed ] I see now. I was stupid to think I could have you.

Mango: Yes, that's right. [ reaches for the Gangleader ]

      Gangleader: Mango! Please!

Mango: No! Get out! I hate you!

[ Gangleader turns away, as Mango reaches again ]

      Gangleader: But, it's just..

Mango: No! You can't have-a the Mango!

[ Mango spanks himself and reaches for the Gangleader, who stops one last time ]

Gangleader: Goodbye, Mango! [ steps out of the dressing room and yells at the Fans ] Back off! Back off!

Sorry that's a bit long.  But I love it!

  •  A spelling lesson for mangomango (4.00 / 6)

The next time you spread your troll-shit around, learn to spell: it's "censor," not "sensor." Did you stick the crayons too far up your nose or did you eat the wrong paste back in kindergarten?

  •  geez (4.00 / 2)

This is truely disgusting. What are they feeding these people to make them have so much hate in their heart for us? I really dislike what Bush and his puppets have done to this country but I could never say I hate them because I don't. I hate what they are doing but I don't hate them...at least not yet anyway. This really is a scary time to be a American. My mother-in-law and I were talking the other day and we both have no doubt if they could, they would physically hurt a Liberal/Democrat if they thought they wouldn't get their asses thrown in jail. I would hate to run into one in a dark alley by myself.

What a shame for our children to have to witness this type of behavior.

  •  Opportunity knocks! (4.00 / 2)

These fools seem as if they are trying to replicate nonviolent protest tactics with their chanting.  Such a shame that they are chanting evil.

As other commenters pointed out, the best reponse is to completely ignore these people.  As they chant "I don't care," read the names of each of the over 1,800 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis who have lost their lives in this quagmire.  For those with family representing, respectfully remember something about these victims of the GOP's war: their favorite foods, colors, movies, etc.

Let the public see the difference.

  •  wasn't there media there taping the scene? (none / 1)

one of them must have recording the not caring freepers.
