Keeping the great tradition of KagroX and others alive... the daily IMPEACH thread!
Heart pounding in my throat, I finally got up the guts to post my first IMPEACH sign. I've been looking for a good place to put one near my house, but unfortunately I'm a very rural area that's very red and I value my life and property. So I've been putting it off. Until today!
I really, really wanted my first sign to be attached to this obnoxious "Homeland Security" metal sign (complete with 'Merican flag and "all suspicious activity will be reported immediately!" notice) that went up just after 9/11 on the road to my son's house. I was going to stick a 8-1/2 x 11" paper on the bottom that said "We're NOT safer: IMPEACH". Unfortunately, I discovered that it's actually right in front of this guy's house and can be easily seen from his front window, so I had to pass on that brilliant idea.
Continuing down the road, I began to take a critical look at the road signs. I quickly realized that, on this very curvy rural road, you can see the plain silver back of many road signs on the opposite side of the street. "AHA!" my brain said to itself... I had seen something like this on Freeway Blogger in the past few days. I had my target(s).
So today I was parked in a turnout by my favorite giant pile of rocks (leftovers from a highway project that the road guys said I could pick through) and what to my wondering eyes should appear... but a road sign in that very same turnout!
I took the opportunity, while nobody was coming, to slap up my original sign on the back of it. It's a perfect blank slate, easily visible coming the other way, and does not obscure the sign itself, making it less likely to be taken down!
Now for what I should have done:
- I should have wiped it off with a baby wipe (I always have a box in the car, unscented) because it was somewhat dirty and the tape didn't stick that well.
- I should have used a bigger sign that just said IMPEACH only (but it's the only sign I happened to have in the car, oh well).
- I should have used duct tape, not the masking tape I grabbed on my way out the door.
- I should have printed out a lot more signs... there are a LOT of blank canvasses in convenient turnouts!
- I should have brought my bright orange safety vest -- as Freeway Blogger points out, someone putting up a sign in an orange vest looks almost exactly like someone taking down a sign, especially if you're zipping by at 50 miles an hour on a rural road.
- I should have done this way before today (tsk tsk on me).
What's
your latest effort to get IMPEACH in the public eye? And enough with the stickers already! They're easier to put somewhere quick and sly, but they're petty vandalism, people. Doesn't help our cause!
