I am going to post my letter to the editor in a Knight Ridder paper. I have gotten a couple published, one about the torture policies of Bush and one on pharmacists and the birth control problem.
This made me very angry and when I read today in my local paper THREE letters all citing that the comments made at Mrs. King's funeral were "disgusting," I had to write.
I know this has been diaried and splashed everywhere, but I wanted to post the letter, feel free to use whatever from it to write your own. This needs to be pushed back, it is a surreal argument that has no place with our current goals. Let's shut it down...
Dear Editor,
In response to Thursday's letters, some clarification to the one-sided argument about the politicization of Coretta Scott King's funeral. *** **** stated that Democrats have outdone themselves. *** **** states that the President "deserves better" at Mrs. King's funeral, and *** **** claims that the Kings would have been "embarrassed" by some of the speakers.
Considering the fact that Mr. and Mrs. King were political activists, the fact that a political tone was used in BOTH of their funerals doesn't seem so outrageous. And a side note to *** ****, look at what WAS said at President Reagan's funeral, politics was a major theme there.
This argument has no traction whatsoever. Coretta Scott King was an activist, she was a feminist, and she was certainly more aligned with the Democratic Party than the Republican Party. Her life WAS political, hence the politics at her funeral.
This false sense of outrage over the politicization of her funeral is ridiculous. Everything that she stood for goes against the current policies of the Bush Administration and the Republican party.
Thank you,
Cohe
Also, I sent a letter to Kondracke, after his performance that was caught by Media Matters.
Mr. Kondracke,
I suppose in your comments on Mrs. King's funeral and in particular Rev. Lowery's standing ovation for his comment about the lack of WMD found in Iraq, you felt the need to lie. He received a standing ovation, 23 seconds of applause and you felt that it wasn't noteworthy?
This is part of the problem with our country. The semantics, and the rearranging of words to make the party that holds the power seem like they have the majority opinion when that is simply UNTRUE.
If the Bush Administration ever let themselves be queastioned by audiences who didn't have to sign over their firstborn to be in the same room, then maybe we would get a fair and balanced view.
