Here's a thought- it would be nice to put Dick Cheney's cruelty and incompetence to good use for once. If ever there was a time to pass legislation banning canned hunts, it's now. This is an easy win for the dems if they would take it on. I've always found canned hunts to be a repugnant and vile form of entertainment for the (very) rich. That's what it is- entertainment. It's certainly NOT hunting. I'm more fisherman than hunter, but I understand the best moments in fishing come from experiencing the outdoors and matching wits against prey. Killing for killing's sake? Not so much...

I did a quick google search and found some info on canned hunts on the Humane Society website here:
Humane Society Canned Hunts
From Maine to Arkansas, canned hunting operations are sprouting up all over. The HSUS estimates that there are more than 1,000 canned hunt operations in at least 28 states. They are most common in Texas, but they are found throughout the continental United States and Hawaii. Safari Club International has done its part to promote canned hunting by creating a hunting achievement award, the "Introduced Trophy Game Animals of North America," which may support the operation of canned hunts.
I'd love to see state by state campaigns to immediately criminalize canned hunts as immoral and needlessly cruel. There's no good defense for them- defenders will only look inhumane. It may help passage in red states to throw in a nice concession to REAL hunters, like setting aside wetlands, or something along those lines. Whatever goody would get ducks unlimited and similar organizations to offer support. Anyone out there agree? Can you spread the idea somehow?
