There's been a lot of media attention paid to Cheney's shooting accident, and I think the Democrats have an opportunity to weave this event in with the more important scandals facing Cheney.
The particular angle that I'm thinking of involves the revelation of Cheney's involvement in the Plame scandal last week. I think it would be quite helpful if, when asked to comment on the Cheney shooting, Democrats could mention that they're not terribly surprised something like this would happen, considering that the stress Cheney is under due to his involvement in the Plame scandal.
I think this is an angle that would find a place in the public's consciousness - more than a few people are going to think, "Yeah, if I was facing that sort of legal trouble, I'd probably take a weekend off to go drinking too." Even for the people who believe the official 'only one beer' line, it creates an impression that Cheney may have been angry at the time, which would could easily lead to carelessness. This narrative helps create the public impression that Cheney isn't in full control.
Beyond that, it helps reintroduce the Plame scandal to the media, and by tying it in with something 'exciting' like a shooting, makes the public more aware of the duller scandal.
Perhaps this isn't worthy of a diary entry, but I know a lot of Democratic party members at least browse Kos, and I thought I'd post it in hopes that one of them reads it and uses it as an angle in the inevitable weekend talkfest about the event. As I said, I think it would be useful in tying the shooting event into a greater narrative of Cheney's problems, and I think creating that narrative would help focus public attention on the greater issues.
