Don't see this as a diary yet, so: From a new
Washington Post article
President Bush wasn't aware of the sale of six U.S. ports to an Arab company until after federal approval was granted and congressional opposition erupted over the deal, his spokesman said today.
So let me get this straight: Bush was completely unaware of the deal, but when the public and members of Congress questioned it, his immediate reaction was to quite strongly denounce critics of the deal, and vow to veto any attempt to block the deal. Is it just me, or does that seem, I dunno, strange? It seems like most people's immediate reaction to discovering a controversy on an issue they weren't even aware of, their first reaction would be to investigate the issue.
Bush's immediate reaction to defend a decision he didn't even know about says a lot about the way the White House functions, I think - this clearly isn't the first time that this sort of situation have come up before. I think this can pretty much put to rest the question of whether Bush actually makes any policy decisions or is merely a puppethead.
