Just heard on CNN radio news. They had "just learned" (so it really is "breaking") that Bush Chief of Staff Andy Card has resigned. He was one of the longest-serving Chiefs of Staff in history. Budget director Josh Bolten will replace him.
Update:CNN now has a story.
Update: MSN now has a brief story, which includes the following:
The move comes amid a sharp decline in Bush's approval ratings and calls from Republicans for the president to bring in new aides with fresh ideas and new energy.
Update:For what it's worth, my personal analysis after the flip:
This is not a big deal, I don't think, at first glance at least. Standard staff change. In fact the surprising part is that Andy Card stayed as long as he did. It probably does have something to do with murmurs about shaking up the staff, but really, turnover in jobs that high up is rarely a surprise.
I don't think Card will run for governor, but may well run a campaign for someone who does.
Now, Bolten to be chief of staff ... that's something else entirely. That could be a big deal. I don't know much about the guy, but I don't think, when the federal budget is in this much of a mess, that the director of that budget should get a promotion. But that's just me.
Update: With a big hats-off to CaptUnderpants (please give him a recommend downtrhead!) here's more about Bolten.
