You may all be aware of the purported link between mercury and autism. Even though I was once a believer, you can put away your "tin-foil hat" detectors, this isn't about that...not directly.
The Autism Society of America has come up with a new campaign to make us aware that autism is now diagnosed in 1 in 166 people. In their Madison Avenue way they have used a "pull at the heartstrings" type sales pitch to make people aware of this great travesty against humanity. The only thing is, they did not consult with any of those humans who feel that the label applied to them is not a "harsh reality", but a way of being; not a disease, but a difference.
I emailed this
link to a group I belonged to that consists of parents who have children with autism.
They found it "shocking".
I found it "life-changing".
For the few (if any)of you who will take the time to read it, I wonder how you will feel. Make sure to get past the first 9 or 10 pages to get into the highly political message the creators have had the guts to give to you.
I think you will see the creators of this website deserve political recognition, not pity.
Even if you don't have time to read the "Getting the Truth Out" website, please recommend to keep this alive. I'll also ask for "tips" as I think this helps. This IS the reality based community Armando was talking about when he did a diary on the autism/mercury and "tin-foil" post.
I am not really used to doing diaries, so I may not be following protocol. I also chose to do this on a slow day because in the offhand chance anyone would read it, I wouldn't know what to do! I appreciate you patience!
