It is absolutely astounding to me that the largest political/social protests ever, in over 100 American cities, people marching in the streets demanding recognition and rights is occurring today with nary a comment here at Daily Kos.
Hey, Kossians, let me clue you in: you are missing a very large boat here.
That's millions of people getting tuned into politics for the first time, and a lot of them can vote, or will be able to soon, like, for instance, all those kids leaving school to hit the streets in organized, peaceful, protest. Witnesses to who they are. The very folks we progressives claim to represent, the downtrodden and exploited, yada yada.
These folks will remember who stood with them, when they get into a voting booth.
By the way, do I have to point out that these folks have utterly shamed the anti-war/anti-Bush folks in terms of getting out their people?
What does the outside world see? Enormous protests for immigration policies that are not punitive, and for recognition of basic rights. The anti-war, anti-Bush folks can't come close to this in the numbers they can get on the streets, and it didn't take the immigrants any six months of prep and hoopla to get the showing they have gotten.
America comes off looking like the people support the war, because the people don't get out into the streets, LIKE THEY DO ALL OVER THE WORLD, to great effect, BTW.
Seems to me someone is giving lessons in activism, over on the other side of the tracks, if you'd care to attend. Solidarity is not just a city in Poland.
