This editorial in today's Guardian is a futuristic telling of a hawkish Hillary Clinton presidency trying to make good on her "centrist" election persona in a post W. Bush world.

I would love it if a Democratic presidential candidate would get as far as the general election based on presenting a truley new alternative democratic vision for America and actually exercise the leadership to excite the public about this vision. However this is obviously unlikely to come from the Clinton folks who brought us the triangulation strategy. One of the things this editorial causes me to ponder is in light of Middle America's suspicion of Hillary Clinton what "persona" can she campaign on for 2008 that does not require her to run to the right of John McCain on Iraq specifically, pander to Republican voters generally and still leaves her viable as a candidate in the general election? I would prefer if Hillary just did not run but that obviously is not going to happen. Given the Clinton's legendary ambition a first term Hillary presidency seems at this point that it will be Republicanism by other means.
