According to Steven Leser, Tony Snow is starting off his job, you could almost say, appropriately, with a cover-up. But this cover-up is not covering the latest Bush lie, mistake or deception. It's covering up some what must be very interesting comments that Snow made on one of the most popular right wing web sites.
Leser reports in an article, Tony Snow - Cover-ups for Press Secretary Begin Before he Officially Starts that Snow was a regular poster at the FreeRepublic website...
but suddenly, a " mountain of information Mr. Snow had submitted and had posted on the site disappeared. What is he hiding? What sorts of comments is he afraid might see the light of day?"
Leser's article cites and links to comments on the freeper site where comments have been removed, and he calls for Snow's appointment to be withdrawn, and a person we can trust to be appointed.
My take is that Snow is exactly what Bush wants-- someone to talk to his "base." Bush is operating with a siege mentality and appears to have given up on reaching any of the people that polls show have lost trust in him. Snow, as a regular propagandist for Fox, will deliver continuity of message to to the Fox morons who depend upon Fox for his news.
I think that Bush and the people in the Whitehouse are so habituated to getting their news from Fox that perhaps they assume that it is the news that everyone watches, that everyone trusts. They have such a close, chummy, institutional relationship with Fox it wouldn't surprise me if they just feel that Fox are "the real folks" for all americans. The whitehouse bozos are enough out of touch on enough other issues. Maybe its the way it is with the news world too. The others are "the enemy" and Fox folks are the real thing. They don't get it that most of the world and a lot of Americans will see Snow as a total propagandist who is not to be trusted.
