Roll Call is reporting that Nancy Pelosi is working to get her caucus in line in support of Net Neutrality. The vote on the COPE act will come up next week. The bill currently doesn't have any meaningful protections to maintain a free and democratic internet.
This bill must be defeated. Whatever you think of Pelosi, she's been good at keeping the caucus together, hopefully this will be no exception.
Democrats in the pocket of Big Telecom are carping:
"She's taking this bill personally. It's a constituent issue for her, and she's generalized it into a Caucus issue," said a senior aide to a Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee.
Wonder who that Democrat could be? Charlie Gonzalez? Bobby Rush?
Jarvis Stewart, a former chief of staff to Rep. Harold Ford Jr.(D-Tenn.) who's now lobbying for Verizon on the issue, called the minority leader's involvement "heavy-handed."
Blah, blah, blah. Hey Jarvis why don't you get a tee time with Mike McCurry and leave the internet alone?
Unfortunately, Big Telecom has given a lot of money to Democrats (as well as Republicans) so we can't count on our Dems to do the right thing.
Pelosi is working on the Caucus. The time to contact your Rep is right now. Tell them to stand with Nancy Pelosi, stand up for a free, democratic internet and against Big Telecom's power grab.
