Hon. House Minority Leader Pelosi -
As one of your constituents, I am astonished that you did not join the 72 members of Congress who signed amicus briefs on behalf of two separate proceedings in two Federal demanding a halt to Bush's illegal and unconstitutional domestic NSA wiretaps.
I am certain that you would not allow political triangualtion strategems or the neutered consultants to dishonor you and your sworn oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. I am certain you would not allow self-interest to negate your obligation to uphold and defend the central role and fundamental powers of the Congress as set forth in the Constitution. And I'm certain your office knew about the amicus briefs.
Therefore, I can only conclude that - as you know signing the amicus briefs in support of ending the NSA's illegal domestic spying is required by your sworn Oath of Office and by your role as House Minority leader - you wanted to sign, but couldn't. Rep. Pelosi, can we buy you a pen?
Hon. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi -
As one of your constituents, I am astonished that you are not among the 72 members of Congress who signed amicus briefs on behalf of two separate Federal Court proceedings demanding a halt to Bush's illegal and unconstitutional domestic NSA wiretaps.
Allow me to introduce a member of the House - Rep. John Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. Rep. Conyers objects to the NSA warantless wiretap programs, saying:
"'Congress has failed to provide this critical oversight which has led us to the courts.'
The brief argues that Congress never authorized the warrantless spying program, neither through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 nor the post-9/11 authorization for use of military force. It details the legislative history of both and asks the court to halt the program immediately.
'As our brief makes clear, this Congress dealt with this issue authoritatively almost 30 years ago - warrantless spying on American soil is flatly prohibited,' Conyers added."
