Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht, the right-wing judge who once held that
pregnant girls cannot get an abortion unless they speak to a member of the clergy, has been
publicly admondished by the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct.
Hecht, a close personal friend of Harriet Miers, was directed by the White House to get James Dobson's support for the Miers nomination. After the nomination came down, Hecht appeared in 120 media interviews defending the nomination.
The Texas Commission held that Hecht's conduct violated Texas' ban on judges "endorsing another candidate for any public office," and on judges "lend[ing] the prestige of judicial office to advance the private interests of the judge or others." Good for Texas.
