So today I'm at my bank
First Tennessee to make a little transaction. As soon as I walk in the door I hear "that voice". It's George W. Bush. Bush is yammering-on about gay people getting married. (Did I mention my best friend is gay? Did I mention I
hate George W. Bush with every fiber of my being?) The line you have to stand in has a TV next to it. The TV, which in the past had always been tuned to CNBC is now tuned to Fox "News".
As I'm waiting in line, a man who is obviously an employee walks by and says: "You having a good day?" I reply that it would be a whole lot better if I didn't have to listen to George W. Bush.
He snickered and I said, "I'm not making a joke. This TV should
not be tuned to Fox "News". They are a propaganda arm of the Republican party". He snickered again and said, "What
should I tune it to, the Communist News Network?" I ignored his smart-assed remark and said, CNN is not much better than Fox "News" but anything would be an improvement.
At this time, another employee distracted him and he went thru a door behind the tellers. I asked the teller if he had any function to be in a position to change the channel. She said he was the "customer service representative". That did it. He wasn't going to escape without a fight.
I waited for him to go back to his desk and I approached him. I told him his crack about "Communist News Network" was condescending and I didn't like being talked to like that as a customer with a legitimate complaint. He said it was just a joke & I told him that I didn't care about his political views. I pointed out that if his bank was going to promote a particular political party over another, that they were going to start losing business, since I wasn't the only person who felt this way.
He tried the old "I don't pay attention to the news and all I do is read the sports page" ploy with me. As we were talking, another employee with a desk nearby chimed-in that she thought George W. Bush was a great president and he was the reason we were "safe".
I told her she was delusional and I hoped everything was fine and happy in her little imaginary world. I would have argued with her further, but her desk was so far away that I had to raise my voice to speak to her and I didn't want to make things any worse. I was already going "solo" here. Oh, and one other thing the lady said that really pissed me off....the "customer service representative" was telling me that they normally keep the TV on CNBC and someone must have changed it.
The lady chimed-in that the cleaning people must have changed it to Fox. I told her that there was no way that a cleaning person would do that. I said "poor people generally don't watch Fox "News"....only Republicans like yourselves fall for this propoganda.
After all this arguing, he finally asked someone to change the channel. I thanked him for his time and then left. My daughter and her best friend were waiting for me outdoors...sitting under a shade tree...reading the books we had just checked out from the library. I figured it was time to go home.
Well, thanks for letting me rant. It's in my screen name...so, I kinda have to! Days like today, I just feel like the Lone Democrat.
If you'd like to drop the "fine" folks at my bank an email or call 'em up here's the link.
Around 5:30pm (central) I sent an email to the customer service folks at First Tennessee. Since it's after-hours, I'm sure it won't be read until Tuesday. I debated about what to say and how to say it...then it hit me. They need to read this diary and ALL the comments. So I sent them a fairly short note & a link to this diary. One thing I left out, in case someone from First Tennessee actually reads this, be sure and check out the site meter at the bottom of the page. Thanks for the comments everyone!
