Several people are concerned about what appears to be a stance , by George Bush, of refusal to follow the laws of the country, by his declarations in his signing statements. Perhaps, he really is an "illegal president" since he apparently is violating his basic oath.
King George the Cowardly, has, throughout his administration, been accused of lying, and of acting improperly, with the most recent claims, that he has acted outright illegally.
The most egregious of a long line of asserted illegal (meaning they violated the laws) acts, involved overstepping his bounds when it came to the NSA spying on domestic calls.
But, what was described by a member of the American Bar task force, involving the "signing statements" in which Bush essentially asserts he is not going to follow laws passed by Congress, goes to the heart of a basic violation of his oath of office, and to me, becomes "high crimes and misdemeanors".
Reference the Oath of Office of the President of the United States of America.
In the United States, the oath of office for the President of the United States is specified in the U.S. Constitution (Article II, Section 1):
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. "
It appears that, a President, ANY president, who, after a law is passed, essentially says he will not obey, or does not feel bound to obey the laws of the Country, is in violation of the Oath.
Why this President has not already been impeached, may seem at first blush, to be a mystery, but really, control of both houses of Congress by his party, may certainly explain this easily enough.
But, the American Bar Association, in a bilateral consensus, seems quite troubled by the President's odd signing statements.
