The highly respected and accurate Field Poll (
http://field.com/...) was just released and it shows Gov. Arnie up 8 points over Phil Angelides:
Angelides 37%
Schwarzenegger 45%
Undecided 15%
Other 3%
More on the flip...
Other interesting points from the poll:
Dems still are not unified behind Phil. Less than 2/3 of likely voting Democrats are supporting Angelides. 85% of likely voting GOPers are supporting Arnold.
Arnold's job approval is now 49%, a jump of 9 points since June. His favorable rating is at 51%.
47% of Californians think the state is headed in the right direction, a jump of 15% since May.
Phil leads Arnold by 10 points in the Bay Area, and by 11 points in the LA area. Those margins must grow for Phil to win.
Arnold holds a nine-point lead in the Central Valley, and a 2-to-1 lead among voters in SoCal outside of LA.
Arnold leads among white voters by 52 to 32 percent, while Latinos favor Phil by more than 2 to 1.
Union households, which we have a counted on very heavily every election, Phil is only ahead 45 to 41 percent.
Nonunion households prefer Arnold by 46-35 percent.
Most problematic are the next two points. Conventional widsom is hardening into concrete: that Angelides cannot win. Only 49 percent of Angelides supporters polled said they believe the Democrat will win the 2006 gubernatorial election, compared to 86 percent of Arnold voters who believe their candidate will win.
Worse, 2/3 of Angelides voters say they are primarily casting a ballot against Arnold instead of voting for Phil. 2/3 of Arnold's supporters, on the other hand are voting in favor of their candidate.
Phil had a lot of work to do with Democrats and DTS voters. I thik if we want to reclaim the Horseshoe (the Governor's office in Sacramento, there is no Governor's mansion in CA) we need to put aside the primary, put our heads down and get to work!
