Yes, this bill is monsterous. But we are doing ourselves and the victims (nevermind future victims) +no+ favors by calling it the "Incest Notification Act."
Why? Because calling it that makes it sound like a good thing, like it's adding protection to victims of incest, when the opposite is true.
Alternatives?
How 'bout "Pedophile Protection Act"?
True, that appellation does not specifically call incest to mind, but it doesn't need to. It makes the point that this bill protects the pedophile, the sexual abuser -- which is what a parent is who treats his/her children this way. Incest, in my opinion, doesn't really communicate the horror and the damage that is wrought upon a child (of whatever age) when a parent abdicates her/his parental responsibility and exploits his/her child in the pursuit of sexual gratification.
How 'bout "Pedophile Breeding Act"?
Because that's what its powers do. Protects the pedophile's ability to breed with her/his own offspring.
How 'bout "Pedophile Love Act"?
Because supporting this bill is tantamount to helping a parental sexual abuser "love" his/her child just a little more.
This is a diverse community. I'm sure we can come up with a better way to refer to this heinous bit of legislation than "Incest Notification Act." If this were really about the reporting of incest, I'd be all for it.
