"I was wrong" --- no, not me personally. Obviously, I've been wrong a lot in my life. Anyone who talks as much as I do has gotta be wrong sometimes. But I am not talking about that. I am talking about politicians, and about getting elected, and that sort of thing. The sort of thing this site is about (hey, not all my diaries are about math or statistics).
For a little more, join me below the fold
When is the last time you heard a politician say "I was wrong"? I think we should hear it more often. Now, obviously, Bush ought to be saying it practically every time he opens his mouth, but he's hopeless. But what's up with Democrats? An embarassing number of them voted for the Iraq war and voted for the Stolen Freedom act (aka the Patriot act), and so on. Well, OK. They were wrong. Why don't they say so?
About Iraq:
I voted for the Iraq war. I was wrong. The war was a mistake. I voted the way I did because the president lied to us. He deliberately deceived the American people, including Congrss
About the Patriot Act
I voted for the Patriot Act. I was wrong. The act should be repealed. At the time, I thought it was necessary to protect our freedom, and I thought the administration would use the power responsibly. I was wrong. It actually erodes our freedom, and the administration is using it to evade the constitution
About the environment
I used to think global warming was a myth. I was wrong. It's real, it's dangerous, and we have to do something about it. Now.
etc.
Come on congresscritters! You were wrong! Admit it!
That would win my vote.
