The man of
principle , now
flip flops on Iraq:
[LIEBERMAN's NEW AD] And I'm staying because I want to help end the war in Iraq in a way that brings stability to the Mid-East and doesn't leave us even more vulnerable.
Yesterday, Lieberman said this:
If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out [of Iraq] by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again.
More--
So "Steadfast Joe" remains a steadfast liar. Does Joe really want us out of Iraq? Sure. So does Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Wanting us out of Iraq is not the issue. Demanding a policy that extricates us from the Iraq Debacle is the issue. And Lieberman won't support any call for BushCo to provide a plan for that. That is the issue. He wants to stay so he can lead on Iraq. Cheerlead. Cheerlead the failed Iraq policy of George Bush. Cheerlead for Stay the Course. Rubberstamp Joe. Lieberman's new ad is a lie as it implies otherwise.
If Lieberman really wants a change in Iraq strategy, then why did he lead the Republican argument against the Levin Amendment? What did Joe object to?
What did Joe say about it?
. . . Senator Levin worked very hard on our side to try to put together a broad amendment that could involve as many members of the Democratic Caucus as possible and he did something here that I think is important: express support for the troops for successful completion of the mission but, quite correctly, asked the Administration, the Pentagon, for a plan, for measurements, for the beginning of a more open and complete dialogue with Congress.
He put something in there that I don't agree with and will lead me respectfully to vote against the amendment. The last paragraph in the Levin-Reid amendment looks like a time table for the withdrawal. It may not be, but I fear it is the message it will send, and that is a message that I feel will discourage our troops in the field, will encourage the terrorists and confuse the Iraqis
(Emphasis supplied.) The last paragraph asked for a plan for withdrawal with no timetables. Joe opposes asking the President for a plan. Joe's plan? Trust in Bush. Cheerlead the President. Stay the Course. That's no plan.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein said:
I believe an open-ended commitment is no longer sustainable in Iraq. . . . It seems to me the president should have come forward with something more specific than 'Stay the course' and 'We will stand down as they stand up.'"
(Emphasis supplied.) Lieberman opposes this. It is not surprising. He is a proven fool. His latest ad demonstrates yet again he is a shameless liar.
