Wow! Zikes!
Did someone say they were looking for Democrats that have a backbone? Look no further than Minnesota's CD2 Democratic Congessional Candidate Coleen Rowley!

There's eleven weeks left and at a smear a week, Kline will sling 11 more mud balls. But it looks like he's not hitting his target and leaving a lot of krappy Kline slime on his hands.

Check out this diary for infomation on the smear

Coleen is needed in congress because she doesn't rush to judgement, she's fair, she's willing to hear all views. She's open and honest and wants to help her other words she's the polar opposite of rethug Kline! Read her press release regarding Kline's latest dirty smear campaign:

Coleen Rowley for Congress

Rowley Responds to Kline Attack Ad #2, David Bailey to Remain with Campaign,

On the controversy surrounding John Kline's recent mailer and David Bailey's role with Rowley for Congress, Coleen Rowley, DFL candidate for U.S. Congress (MN-02), issued this statement:

"John Kline may want to run against David Bailey, but he's not. He's running against Coleen Rowley, and if his attack mailers are any indication, he's running scared right now. He's also running away from his record of support for the disastrous debacle in Iraq, for the Medicare Part D program which is dropping at-risk seniors down the 'donut hole', and for privatizing Social Security," said Rowley.

"David Bailey has made valuable contributions to the campaign, and he will continue to do so. I welcome input and advice from people with a variety of views. This necessarily means I will disagree with both my supporters and staff on certain issues at certain times. But at the end of the day, Coleen Rowley decides what Coleen Rowley stands for, period. And as a 24-year FBI agent who fought organized crime, I emphatically and unequivocally oppose legalization of all drugs, especially methamphetamine, heroin, and crack cocaine," said Rowley

"Now that I have had to answer the ridiculous, scurrilous charge that John Kline indirectly leveled against me, I would like some answers from him. Does he agree with yesterday's ruling that Bush's surveillance of innocent Americans without oversight is unconstitutional? If he is in Congress in 2007, will he push as hard for Social Security privatization as he did in 2005? What does he say to seniors who are falling into the Medicare Part D 'donut hole' and are now responsible for 100% of their prescription drug costs? And finally, what is his plan for bringing the American occupation of Iraq to a successful conclusion? Please be specific," said Rowley.

"When I'm in Congress, I won't hide from questions, even hard questions from my opponents. My track record shows I stand up for what I believe is right, even in the face of overwhelming adversity. And one thing I pledge right now and for as long as I'm in politics: I will never stoop to smearing an unpaid staffer on my opponent's campaign --- or anyone else --- for political gain," said Rowley.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I'm in Jim Ramstad's district. Probably the only sure thing for Republicans in Minnesota.

I so support Rowley and Wetterling! I wish them both well.

  •  3 potential pickups in MN (0+ / 0-)

This one along with the D1 and D6. That would be amazing if the state swung to 7 democrats and 1 Republican in the house. Sadly this one, D2, is not listed as a potential pickup on the Cook Report, while the other 2 are. If Rowley keeps exposing that slimeball Kline for what he is she should definetly have a fighting shot.

    •  It was a potential pickup (0+ / 0-)

but Rowley has run such a shitty campaign that it has been downgraded.

Don't you get tired of kicking demos? Shouldn't you spend your time supporting your own (whomever they may be!?). I personally am aware of your endless 'she's going to lose' attacks and attitude and personally if you don't have something positive to add..don't.

It's time to circle the wagons around our democrats especially when NeoCons like her opponent John Kline keeps trying to smear and attack... if you don't want to...well I guess we know who's side you're on. Spare me another inane reply as to why only you can call Democratic winners and losers, your personal vendetta against one of our own is truly pathetic.

  •  '... oppose legalization of ALL drugs.' (0+ / 0-)

Does that word "all" in there allow some hope that Coleen would support legalization of cannabis?

    •  Probably not (0+ / 0-)

Coleen is very her and ask, But as a 24 year FBI agent, she probably hold a stronger view on legalized drugs but she's open to debate unlike Kline.

      •  OK, I wrote her (or her staff, more likely) (0+ / 0-)

        Here's what I wrote.

        Hello, Rowley-for-Congress Staff Member.

I apologize in advance from asking about an issue that I suspect the campaign wishes would go away -- namely, Ms. Rowley's position on issues related to the drug war.  I understand that the whole reason  this is even being discussed in this campaign is a ridiculuous attack on one of your colleagues levied by the opposition.

Let me also add that I am a strong supporter of Ms. Rowley's bid for Congress.  What she did was a true act of patriotism.

However, now that the issue has been brought up, I am writing seeking clarification on Ms. Rowley's response.  In a statement, Ms. Rowley stated that she opposes legalization of "all [illegal] drugs."  I wonder if the wording of her statement was intended to leave open the possibility that Ms. Rowley might support the legalization of cannabis.

This is not a "wacky" or even a "liberal" position, as Mr. Klein has charged.  In fact, it is an extremely sensible position with broad support across the political spectrum, including conservative economist Milton Friedman, the libertarian Cato Institute, and, more recently, a group of over 5,000 current and former law enforcement professionals called LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition).  As a former FBI agent, Ms. Rowley must know the tremendous amount of money and life that has been wasted in the war on cannabis -- a substance whose physical and psychological dangers are dwarfed by those of the legal drugs alcohol and tobacco, as well as by much of what is sold by the pharmaceutical industry.  What is worse, the effect of prohibition has not been to eliminate the market for cannabis so much as to drive it underground, so that gangs and armed terrorists (mostly in Mexico) profit from it.

It is neither smart, nor ethical, to have a system that spends $16 billion a year to lock up American citizens because of their recreational drug of choice.

        •  Some more on this (0+ / 0-)

My husband has cancer and is under going chemo...he found that the drugs they put him on to manage the pain between treatments cronk him out, so he doesn't take it and lives in chronic pain. Marijuana is illegal in MN even for medical use but we both commented that it would be nice to have an alternative to what he's been prescribed. Unfortunately it won't be MJ (at least not for a while).

  •  Are there any recent polls for this race? n/t (0+ / 0-)

    •  Rumours of polls (0+ / 0-)

I heard that there was some targeting polling by Kline's office but we've never seen the's funny, that was about a week before the first attack.  I think that the campaign is putting together some polling. I do know there's been some polling by some of the other candidates in CD2 and it looks like we will turn some of the seats. Will Coleen be one? Depends on lots of factors, how fedup with Bush and his minions, how many mis-steps both campaigns make, how Kline who has outraised Coleen 5 to 1 spends the bucks (so far on smears that have dirtied only him), if voter turn out is good,...

On the plus side Bush's approval is in the toilet and he's visiting in Burnsville MN (within CD2) on Sept a hospital. The more we put Kline (who votes 94% w/Bush) the better!
