According to a story posted on the
Aljazeera Website,
A bomber has killed the governor of Afghanistan's eastern Paktia province, along with two other people, police say.
I love the smell of freedom in the morning, don't you? The article continues:
Paktia and other parts of eastern and southern Afghanistan - areas which run along the border with Pakistan - have suffered the worst of Taliban-linked violence.
Afghan officials allege much of the unrest is plotted by Taliban and al-Qaeda members who fled to Pakistan when the Taliban government was ousted.
This assasination comes days after Pakistan announced a truce with pro-Taliban forces in the mountainous border region shared by Afganistan and Pakistan - a truce Bush was fully aware of and actively supported.
Even though it was apparent to even the most casual observer that this represented a disastrous set-back in efforts to capture or kill the gloating bastard who murdered thousands of people on 9/11, Bush had this to say later in the week:
"We're on the offensive, and we will not rest, we will not retreat and we will not withdraw from the fight until this threat to civilization has been removed," Bush said.
Bullshit meters monitoring his speech simply exploded at this point.
And with today's bombshell that Bush missed a perfect chance at Bin Laden a few years back, there can no longer be even the tiniest doubt in any rational person's mind - Bush has the Midas touch in reverse. Everything he touches turns to shit.
It is crystal clear at this point that nothing has been accomplished; nothing has been won; democracy in not on the march; God is not riding shotgun on this trip; there is no end in sight to the chaos, bloodshed and disgrace that is the legacy of this misbegotten administration.
