Donna Edwards has gotten a lot of support lately on DailyKOS and lots of other progressive blogs. However, on friday she got a nice nod from prominent Maryland conservative Gregory Kane.
Now I have been reading Kane for years, and has had his good and bad moments. On occasion his column is cringworthy, but Friday's was one that shows why Kane has been able to thrive as a columnist for the somewhat liberal Baltimore Sun.
Underdog's candor is refreshing presents Donna Edwards in a very positive light, noting that she chose to wait to run for office until her Son became an adult. Kane also appreciates her comments on NCLB, framing the program's problems as due to lack of funding, not due to inherent problems with the program.
He also retells the defining moment of this campaign, the attack on a member Edwards' campaign staff by a member of incumbent Al Wynns' staff. Kane not only criticizes the attack, but Wynn's brutish response.
All in all, this good for Donna. A lot of voters read Kane's column and this is great publicity. Even better, it comes from Kane, whose conservative credentials could convince moderate and even right-leaning "Ehrlich democrats" to vote for Donna tomorrow.
