In a major upset for the DCCC and machine politics,
Carol Shea Porter whooped the DCCC endorsed candidate
54% to 35% (with 90% of the votes counted).
I just returned from the election party and the energy of this campaign, which was easily outspent 5 to 1 (Shea-Porter only spent about $30,000 to about $200,000 for establishment favorite Jim Craig) is a testament to the power of grass roots effort over inside politics that is embarrassing to the principles of the Democratic Party.
More than 300 volunteers wrote over twenty thousand post cards, planted thousands of lawn signs, phoned their friends and neighbors and turnout the vote of election day.
In the eyes of the establishment politicians, Carol Shea-Porter was not supposed to win. That is why folks in Washington never returned the campaign's calls. The DCCC selected her opponent, shipped up campaign talent and had incumbent Congress members stump on Jim Craig's behalf--IN A PRIMARY.
But it was obvious by the results of the primary that the DCCC picked the wrong horse and they should recognize that there is something special in the grass roots campaign that just beat them silly in the NH 1st
Carol Shea-Porter can defeat Republican Jeb Bradley. She is a long-time activist that has closely followed Bradley and understands not only his record, but his psyche. With the backing of the DCCC and the net roots community, we can win the NH 1st with Carol Shea-Porter.
