The newsletter "Inside EPA" is reporting in its September 22nd edition that the White House is planning to "unveil a new, more aggressive approach for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, including a possible new call for mandatory limits."
The story cites unnamed sources who say that the Bush administration does not want to release any of these plans until after the election to avoid undermining Republican candidates who continue to parrot the Big Oil-funded position that climate change is a "hoax."
Even more interesting is the article's contention that the alleged policy changes are being spearheaded by none other than Karl Rove. If true, this is a clear sign that the Republicans are beginning to realize that, politically, they're on the wrong side of this issue. (Of course, they're on the morally wrong side too, but that's not Rove's area of expertise.)
How interesting that the Bush administration would keep its own alleged plans secret, to avoid highlighting how far behind the Republicans are on this issue. Of course, there is still a very good chance that these policy options will end up being shot down -- never bet on reasonable, common sense solutions coming out of this White House.
Regardless, it's a good sign that public awareness of climate change is being raised to such a high level that even the oilmen running this country have to sit up and take notice. Clearly, we need to keep the pressure on -- while defeating ALL the politicians who refuse to offer solutions to this global threat.
