A school in Texas, fearing a shortage of ignoramuses of the caliber of Tom DeLay and George W Bush, is taking action.
The school board in Frisco, Texas, has fired an award-winning art teacher for taking fifth graders on a field trip to a Dallas art museum, where some students glimpsed nude statuary.
The school, The Wilma Fisher School, displays its motto on the school's web page: "Never be anything less than everything you can be."
After an inquiry, Sydney McGee, a 28-year veteran teacher, was placed on paid administrative leave, and her contract will not be renewed.
According to a piece in
The Raw Story
Parents raised concerns over the field trip after their children reported seeing a nude sculpture at the art museum.
The parents had signed permission slips allowing their children to take part in the field trip.
McGee's lawyer said the principal at Fisher Elementary School admonished her after a parent complained that a student had seen nude art.
McGee said the principal had urged her to take the students to the museum.
McGee's teacher web page shows her to be the kind of teacher that most school districts, at least those concerned with educating their students, would treasure.
