I am so freakin' pissed about this torturer enablement bill today, i'm now writing my FIRST diary ever. Unbelieveable! I can't believe that someone, born in America, could actually even put forth such legislation! How is this even debatable? What the hell is going on here? What's next? How much lower can we go? I did some thinking about this week and the NIE and the undemocratic, unconstitutional bill they voted for today...
These are incredibly frightening times. It's sickening to me the loss of core human rights from our rule of law. I also think of all of the good will squandered after 9/11 and how we've turned that on it's head. We are now despised throughout the world (not just the Middle East) as a country of dangerous hypocrites. We have ruined our wonderful democracy. I want to move to Canada, but while I'm here I promise to fight.
And I will fight back.
The stakes are now so incredibly high. We can't afford to let this go quietly. If we do, there's no telling what they could try next. Did ANYONE here even think this kind of legislation could even be put forward, or taken seriously, or PASSED?!? We have no choice but to HIT BACK HARD! We need to declare shenanigans at every moment. We need to hit the streets! Everyone. Don't let them try to stop us!
I just HIT BACK HARD by donating some money to every single one of the netroots candidates on Act Blue. It's like shopping to cure one's depression, but feels more like trying to get my democracy back from the pawnshop. But it made me feel better, so do it!
So, keep fighting! And fight back harder! Who's going to stand up there with Keith Olberman and call this out? Where are you, Big Dog? You are late to the game, but you came out strong. What do you have to say about this travesty?
OK. I'm exhausted. Don't forget to ride your bike tomorrow in Critical Mass. I think it's the Oktoberfest ride tomorrow in Chicago, and I'll bet there is a pretty cool Critical Mass ride near you.
I will wear black tomorrow to mourn the death of our once-fine democracy.
