It looks like Ken Mehlman has decided to go over Liddy Dole's head and share some RNC cash to do the work she failed to do. The RNC is targeting Senate seats in three states to build a "firewall" around a Republican majority in the Senate, no matter how small.
The selection of the states speaks volumes about which seats the RNC assumes will be lost. Take a look at the
article from Fox News:
WASHINGTON -- In an unusual move, the Republican National Committee is investing heavily in television advertising in Senate races in Ohio, Tennessee and Missouri in what officials describe as a firewall strategy designed to limit Democratic gains in the Nov. 7 elections and maintain the GOP majority.
The move reflects a desire on the part of Ken Mehlman, the Republican Party chairman, and other strategists to exercise more control over the drive to retain a majority, according to several Republican officials. They said the decision has caused friction with officials at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which historically has been the only party entity to run commercials on behalf of its candidates.
The move also raises questions about the priority assigned by the RNC to races in other states where Republicans are in jeopardy _ Pennsylvania, Montana and Rhode Island among them.
So, they're giving up on Pennsylvania, Montana, and Rhode Island, and are choosing not to go toe-to-toe with Menendez in New Jersey. Kennedy and Steele? Take a hike, now you guys really are the independents you pretend to be, because Uncle Ken is taking away the car keys.
They're drawing their line in the sand in Missouri, Tennessee, and Ohio: two toss-up states and one where the Republican is at a distinct disadvantage. Will it make a difference?
I'm not too worried. Spend the cash, bitches!
