My dad always told me that a man was known by the company he keeps. That motivated me to write a long post at PomboWatch A brief summary states that the Gun Owners of America, a very right wing group whose leader, Larry Pratt, was well connected to the militia movement, has sent out a fundraising letter for Pombo. The contact for the money collected in Anne Volz, a paid staffer from the Pombo organization. In fact, Pratt is so many degrees of separation from mainstream Republicans that Pat Buchannan severed him from Buchannan's 1996 Presidentail Campaign.

There is a normal disclaimer of not being a part of any organization, but then why is the money being sent to Volz? Is Pombo this desparate?

Since the audience here is so supportive of Jerry McNerney, I hoped that someone else would pick up on this and help spread the word. Let's give Pombo more time to pick better friends.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Pombo is desperate.... (6+ / 0-)

He wrote the most defensive letter to the editor on his not being endorsed by the Chronicle Pombo Whine...today's SF Chronicle.  You'd think a congress critter wouldn't so blatantly whine...but he's a rethug so it figures.

Company he keeps: Abramoff, Delay, Bush, Cheney....he needs to become a recluse to save the environment and this nation. He needs no more friends as far as I can tell....

formerly Chief of Staff to disgraced Bob Ney (R-Abramoff)?

That would make too much sense.

if the company they keep is "Dick" Pombo.

That was hilarious!! Haha. He needs to follow that advice they say, never send an email when you're angry. Cuz there's no "unsend" button for when you read it later on after you've calmed down a bit, and realize that your insane rantings are now recorded permanantly on the internets/somebody else's computer. Unfortunately, I've been there :-) but, cmon, a sitting Rep (not for long) sending a letter to the major newspaper of his area? Where's the restraint, or, barring that, where's the campaign staff?

He can brush Chron off as liberal crazy paper, but what about the Modesto Bee one, that said he is "at the diseased heart of the quid-pro-quo process that defines Washington..." AFTER they have endorsed him every other election?? What a crybaby.

I may diary this on calitics.

Hank Shaw of the Stockton Record gives a good rundown on the contributions in his blog.
(Sorry, you gotta click on hic picture to read it.)

Delores Huerta, an allociate of Cesar Chavez in the early UFW days, has been going around the district stumping for McNerney. If she can do this at age 76, what are the rest of us doing?  Huerta's name carries a lot of weight in the Hispanic Community. The basic story was in the Morgan Hill Times (local) but you have to subscribe to read it.
