Date: Before November 7, 2006.
Dear registered voter:
They raise money and court support everyday.
They campaign for months. They try to please everybody and offend nobody.
They have the Power to govern us.
They govern us. All the time, every day. Every night.
One tiny moment we are the boss.
Not election day, which is busy and newsy and citizens are just consumers again, picking up the lessers of evils for breakfast or dinner and public office on their way to and from work. Voting is a mechanical, non-threatening act.
Our time is Monday night. They're done. They wonder, they tremble, they fear.
They fear you and me. They're afraid that we may do what we are free to do; free to think for ourselves, and vote for ourselves, throw them out if we decide to, and then start paying attention to what the new ones do..
So vote Tuesday (or sooner if you like.) But please breathe that air Monday night. The air of our power and our freedom, sweetened with the discomfort of those who have dared to lord it over us and short-change us, and are not inclined to stop it.
It's the air of liberty friends, of freedom and of self-government. This year we will throw the republicans off the gravy train. On November 8th we will start making sure that the democrats do more than merely try to climb aboard it.
We will start to govern ourselves again.
