A short primer on career politicians--I know they all are--but some are worse than others. Among the worst are the scions [read this as usually: white, privileged, entitled, male, sons]of former elected officials. Think: George W. and Jeb Bush. Gosh, there must be so many others--too many to keep track of.
On November 7th, two scions that come to mind are, Mr. Kean (R), running for the Senate in New Jersey, and my favorite, Andy (oops, Andrew) Cuomo (D), running for attorney general in New York.
I'm going to hold my nose, really hold my nose, and vote for this guy--Cuomo--this self-important hack. He's going to win because this is exactly what just about every Democrat in New York is going to do, fall in line and vote for a very unappealing candidate.
Andy Cuomo is back, inflicting himself on New York yet again. This time running for Attorney General of New York.
I believe crashing the gates means among other things, not turning a blind eye to the privileged scions of ex-governors and high officials of both parties, who deem elective office their birthright. It isn't.
We New Yorkers had a bad choice in the primary, Andy Cuomo or Mark Green--two career politicians. For those of you who don't live in New York and don't have the pleasure of clowns like these two fellows, allow me to introduce you. Mark Green, Cuomo's primary opponent was derided in the primary as a man who just couldn't stop running for office.
They same can be said of Andy Cuomo.
New Yorkers kicked him down in his last aborted run for governor a couple of years ago. Forgive me, but he's the George Bush of the Democratic Party. His dad was governor, and it became Andy's birthright to inherit the office.
New Yorkers gave him a resounding kick in the ass--he was forced to withdraw from his last gubernatorial run by of all people, Bill Clinton. He was undoubtedly promised by the powers that be in New York, that if he obeyed and walked away from his failed gubernatorial bid, he would be amply rewarded. And guess what, the New York Democratic machine delivered--for him. You see, it's about Andrew Cuomo, not about the citizens of New York.
Andy laid low--went back into his hole--for a year or so, then announced he would be running for attorney general. The guy has no shame, and now we New Yorkers have no choice. And most important the machine delivered.
When Cuomo Jr. ran for governor, New Yorkers felt a lot less certain about his political future, than did the political class. We kicked him down, but the political bosses (read Mario Cuomo and friends), wouldn't give up. So he's back.
Ask any, I repeat any New Yorker, about Andrew Cuomo. You know what they'll say, "YUCK". But we'll dutifully go and vote for him on November 7th--and mark my words he'll become a true thorn in the side of Elliot Spitzer--because Andrew Cuomo is all about one thing--Andrew Cuomo.
Would someone tell me, why do these career political hacks dislike working in the private sector, like the rest of us?
Enjoy your Attorney Generalship, Andrew Cuomo. Elliot Spitzer was a giant, you have enormous shoes to fill--we'll be watching you.
