Do you know who this man is?
Me neither.
Does this photo help?
Just another Korean War vet with movie star good looks? Not quite. Pat Tiberi, the Republican Congressman from Ohio's 12 th District, is making quite an effort to educate the people of his district to this man's name. Thanks Pat!
Up until last Thursday, my wife and my father and law maybe thought the fellow in the picture above was just some fellow who you would see at the grocery store or at church. They had no idea that he was Bob Shamansky, a former Congressman who is running for Pat Tibieri's seat in Ohio's 12th Congressional District.
Anyway, Pat Tibieri has been good enough to educate the voters of his District by filling our mailboxes with not one but two glossy and expensive flyers explaining something about Bob Shamansky's house and maybe he doesn't live where he should or something like that. This District is a heavily Republican district, at least in my neck of the woods and is populated by a lot of people who, before this week, didn't know who Bob Shamansky is. As my father in law so eloquently put it . . "Before this flyer, Bob Shamansky could come into my house and piss on my living room carpet, and I would have no idea who he was. . ." (Of course only a Republican would do something like that . . . I understand that President Bush is fond of his own flatulence . . . but that's another diary.)
Well, thanks to Pat Tiberi, everyone in the 12th District knows who Bob Shamansky is. . . . and no one knows about Pat Tiberi's position on the issues . . . like this one:
My position on the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power, fight terrorism abroad, and work to foster democracy in the Middle East has not changed. I supported the authorization for use of military force against Iraq because, like the CIA, British Intelligence, Israeli government, and many Democrats in Congress, I believed Iraq posed a threat to our national security. I remain committed to our mission in Iraq.
"I have not called on Secretary Rumsfeld to resign or urged the president to remove him. Since December of 2005 I have stated publicly that I believe we need new leadership in the Pentagon. I believe this president can be better served. However, the defense secretary serves at the pleasure of the president - he makes the call. I continue to support the president's authority in this matter."
Anyway, now that you know who Bob Shamansky is, and what a schmuck our sitting Congressman is, perhaps you could visit this page and show Bob a little love, Kossack style:
