All the hard work of the Goldmark campaign, in one of
the most challenging districts in the country, home to the former Speaker of the House, Tom Foley, is showing telling signs of real movement. The unrest in this district is palpable. As I drive around Spokane I see big and beautiful Goldmark signs. Where I remember, all too vividly,
Cathy McMorris signs, I see plain Fall lawns and signs of Halloween. I will not allow myself to believe that there is a sure thing coming, but I see reason to hope where I didn't before. More below..
While our fancy lady with the fetching red leather jacket has been playing the role of the hare in the old fable, Goldmark's campaign has worked steadily to meet with ordinary people around the 5th District and actually hear what they have to say. He hasn't been attending wine tastings with the moneyed folks in town as the October 19th Inlander paper related..

Dawn was still a few minutes from the channeled scablands an hour west of Spokane, but the thick gray sky was poised to make even sunrise pretty much a moot point.
There were just shy of 20 people -- most of them large men in weathered work jackets and jeans -- sprawled in a rough circle in a side room at Jake's Café in Ritzville. The morning's gloom was only enhanced by dark paneling on the walls as Peter Goldmark, in the center of the circle, introduced himself as a farmer and rancher running for Congress to help folks just like those assembled here for coffee.
There were moments of silence.
Then, 60 miles and a week later, the golden sun was waving a cheery goodbye to downtown Spokane on a cloudless evening, where the tiny leaves of the tiny urban street trees were turning to bright autumnal confetti.
Inside the Davenport Hotel, large men in dark suits formed a circle around Cathy McMorris, the tall, dark-haired Republican congresswoman who represents Eastern Washington. Greetings and small talk maintained a steady background hum as guests at a contractors' dinner gathered for cocktails with McMorris, who is finishing her first term. Waiters in vests wove through the Marie Antoinette Room bearing trays of savory-smelling appetizers
With that, the status of the campaign has changed and as of today it is included in the unprecedented fourth wave of Red to Blue candidates with the DCCC describing it this way:
(Washington, D.C.) - Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee unveiled, for the first time in committee history, a fourth wave of Democratic congressional candidates that have qualified for the competitive DCCC Red to Blue program. These 17 candidates join the other top Democratic candidates in the country already in the Red to Blue program and Emerging Races list. These latest additions join the other Democratic campaigns that have successfully surpassed demanding fundraising goals and have skillfully and consistently shown the families in their districts that they will fight for them when elected to Congress. The Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications and strategic support.
And as Cathy McMorris continues her attack ads
produced by the media consulting firm that brought you the "Swift Boat" ad campaign, Stevens, Reed, Curcio & Potholm, Peter Goldmark's campaign has released a new ad featuring his wife, Wendy.
Wendy speaks to the spurious and oddly combined tax and 9/11 charges. (Bush
is America). With pictures of Peter out in the community , she speaks to his strength on the issues (the real issues). At the close of the ad she says, "How do I know this? Because I'm married to him." The final voice is Peter's, "I'm Peter Goldmark and I approve this message and I approve the messenger."
It's called "
Wendy" "The Truth" and began running last evening . It should be up on the
website soon. If you haven't seen the other ads, like "The Purse", or the videos take a look. They were filmed on his 8000 acre ranch in Okanogan.
