Today's front page of the New York Times has the following headline 'Democrats Push to Counter GOP in Turnout Race - Disadvantage is Feared'
I understand that voter apathy has been discussed ad nauseum but frankly, I am pissed off.
I made a pledge to myself after I recovered from my bout of depression that started in November 2004, that I would get involved yet again. I don't really make a whole lot of money, yet I made contributions time and time again back in 2004, and again in 2006. I have given to Act Blue and the various PAC's of my most admired democrats, Wes Clark, Barak Obama, Jim Webb and Ned Lamont. I talk on the phone the whole damn day at my office and the last thing that is appealing to me is getting on the phone on a weekend, yet I am. I decided to host a 'Call for Change Party' in my hometown of Seattle. This is where I need your help.
I thought I wrote a clever invitation, I promised there would be food, and beverages, and a low key environment...I even offered to provide additional cell phones so they would not incurr any charges to their own services. Nada...not one RSVP.
I sent out a second round of invites...appealing to the urgency of this historical election. Yes, I probably even used the guilt card.
So, when I opened my New York Times this morning, and once again saw the article that proclaims that Republicans are better at getting out the vote, I had to agree. It made me sad to know that even some of my friends, who complain about the status quo constantly, are not willing to take the time away from their schedules to make some calls to get out the vote. I don't want to give up. I'll have the party even if it is only me and my husband making phone calls...but damn, this is depressing.
Any suggestions? Anyone out there who will RSVP my party in Seattle? I need your help. Thank you.
