John Kerry will be appearing on
the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer at 4pm today, according to Headline News.
There have been plenty of diaries & comments on this issue, many of them hoping that it would all just go away. "let's focus on other issues!" you say.
But the media has latched onto this controversy, and at this point, John Kerry needs to make this into an opportunity. This is not about him, this is about getting out the message that Bush & his supporters have failed this country.
What Kerry needs to say:
1. In my comments to the students, I was trying to make a joke about President Bush. People have told me over the years that I'm not very good at telling jokes, and maybe I should've listened to them, because I just flubbed it. But when I said that if you are intellectually lazy you will end up stuck in Iraq, I was trying to say that the president is intellectually lazy. The troops are the heroes of this country.
2. President Bush has responded to my comment by using it as a political opportunity. I disagree with his views and with his destructive policies, but I do agree with some of the things that he said on the clip on TV that I saw. He said that our troops are "plenty smart, and plenty brave". This is absolutely correct, the troops are my heroes. The troops are much smarter, and much braver, than men like President Bush.
3. President Bush and his admnistration have not served in any war, their children & families don't serve in the military either, and they have sent these smart, brave children of America into a quagmire based on lies.
4. It will be a tough road to repair the mistakes that this administration has made, but if we all stay strong & focused, we can do it. There are many many smart, brave people in the USA, and if we work together instead of playing politics with silly comments, we can make this country strong again.
5. I am not running for office in these elections. Please focus on the candidates and issues in your state and your district, and please vote.
Go John. We need you. Use this opportunity to tell it like it is, and keep the focus on the damage that these hacks have done to this country.
