Get a load of this one.
Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Judy Baar-Topinka thinks the way to win an election in Illinois is to insult the Cubs and their fans.
Topinka continued to fire barbs at Blagojevich, a well-known Cubs fan. She said he spends more time at the ballpark than he does at the Legislature.
``Maybe he ought to run for manager of the Cubs,'' she quipped in Bloomington. ``They're a bunch of losers, too, and need some help.''
I haven't heard of this campaign strategy before, to attack a beloved sports team (and their fans) in their home state. Maybe she thinks it will gain her support with White Sox and Cardinal fans, I don't know. But I'm sure the millions of rabid Cub fans in the state of Illinois don't like being termed "losers."
And yes, I realize the Cubs had a bad year. But no Cub fan (of which I'm one) wants to be told their team is a bunch of losers by a non-fan or a politician.
I think I'm finally understanding why the ethically-challenged Blagojevich is cruising to re-election. Judy Baar-Topinka is simply too stupid to govern.
What will she say next? Abraham Lincoln was a crappy president and the Confederacy should have won? The University of Chicago is a party school for those who can't get into Notre Dame? The Hancock Center is an architectural monstrosity?
What other Illinois institutions can Judy Baar-Topinka insult before election day tomorrow?
