Sometimes things are simple, like, which party won the election of 2006, and.... sometimes things are difficult, like, well, who should be Majority, oh, was it Whip?, no it was something else. You know, should Congressman Murtha take that, oh whatever it was, position in the House? I ramble, on purpose, because, thanks to KOS, and the person who wrote the diary, I found out that Congressman Murtha had a 0% rating with NARAL. I am pro-choice, and I did not even have the slightest idea that this man would show up with the BIG GooseEGG from a pro-choice group I have supported. I was distracted by this man's courage to speak out on the war on Iraq; I am still impressed by it.
Surprise: This diary is not about Murtha and Pelosi, nor is it about abortion or my opinion thereof, or the war in Iraq. I do consider these core issues but this diary is not about that. So why do I lead you along? It's only because here I have found amongst fellow people a forum for information. Information does not mean I take your word for facts. I don't believe everything I read even on this website. Rather I checked the links and searched the references and websites and yes Murtha is not looking at all good on the abortion rights front. That is not my point tonight.
The point is I was able tonight because of this website and the online community to, within a hour, learn about facts that might never have come to my attention. I had to do some Internet information assessment myself, but it might not have happened without this community. I might never have known, ever, or even have thought to question my own assumptions. I will make a simple unsubstantiated point that every comment, every diary, every contribution, and perhaps even every reader here may well be remembered in future generations as having participated in something of highest historical significance, something that changed the course of politics, maybe the course of the planet, simply because a forum was started that allowed a free flow of information and discourse that could not be suppressed. May our passions be guided by wisdom we find here.
