Just in case any of you GLBT brothers and sisters out there had an inkling to go out and join a North Carolina Baptist church any time soon, um, please read this diary first.
Seems as though the spiritually-uppity North Carolina Baptists have been quite put out by all of the love and welcoming that other congregations across this fine nation have been extending to
the gays.
Seems as though those holier-than-your-average-baptist North Carolina Baptists want to make damn sure that they are clear on where they stand on the "gay issue": They don't want no stinking gays! AND, they don't want no stinking churches that like those gays.
According to this article on MSNBC,
Now any churches that "knowingly act to affirm, approve, endorse, promote, support or bless homosexual behavior" will be barred from membership.
Oh wait, did I say that N.C. Baptists hate homosexuals? I'm sorry, reading further, I see that I am wrong. According to the article,
"This action does not mean that you should avoid ministry to the homosexual community," said convention executive director Milton Hollifield Jr. "Even though we believe that homosexuality is wrong, we still love and engage those in this lifestyle."
So if you're feeling a little higher-and-mightier than all those other, less Godly baptists, go ahead, go on down to your favorite North Carolina Baptist Church, worship with them...feel the love.
