Mitt Romney missed the deadline yesterday to fund the negotiated contract with the Massachusetts Community Colleges faculty and professional staff (MCCC), thus failing to implement the agreed upon terms which HIS PEOPLE had negotiated with the union negotiating team, and which the MCCC members approved earlier this fall.
The new contract would have given a modest 3% raise (for 3 years) to hardworking state employees, but nothing else. Many other issues that union members thought were important were left out. With the Romney bamboozlers' "take it or leave it" attitude, the union negotiators decided they should take it to the members for a vote. The members approved the new contract.
Then Romney refuses to follow through! Last time he refused to fund a negotiated contract because it had been negotiated under a previous governor. This time, it was negotiated under himself by his own people! Unbelievable.
Please help spread the word. As Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney has been running around the country testing the Presidential waters. With his actions (or lack of action) yesterday, he has shown he has no respect for hardworking state employees, and he does not support Community Colleges, the gateway to higher education for most Americans.
Many people were really surprised by this because the raises were so modest, barely cost of living. Even though other things union members were looking for were not included in the new contract, the feeling was that because the 3% was a sure thing, it should be approved. But all that did was buy time, and basically kept the union members relatively quiet during this recent election. Now that the election is over and the Democrats have won the Governorship, his action seems to be more vindictive than anything. It is just so discouraging.
Do people really think he could be a viable candidate for President?
